What We Do
We specialize in finding top talent for our clients across Canada and have seen increased growth and success over time as the job market has tightened. This is because our recruitment process differentiates us from our competitors, and we thrive when talent is tough to find.
In 2020 when COVID-19 happened, we adapted quickly, moving into Medical Diagnostics and Nurse staffing. We’re proud of our rapid national response to COVID-19 testing, placing hundreds of nurses in workplace and public testing roles across the country.
Our History
Hourglass HR is a technical recruitment agency, headquartered in Ottawa. We specialize in the IT, Engineering and Medical sectors. Our roots date back to 2004, when Mark Cohen, who has been in recruitment since the 1980s established his own recruitment company, supporting IT roles. Mark joined forces with his son Jonathan Cohen who had started another company focused on Engineering roles. They merged their companies in 2018 and founded Hourglass HR.
For over fifteen years, we’ve continued to grow as we serve our clients’ needs. Our success is linked with our selectiveness in who we work with. We have gained a reputation for our integrity by taking care of our candidate’s best interests and telling the truth. Jonathan Cohen, Managing Director
Jonathan gets inspiration from helping people achieve their highest potential. A life-long learner, he believes that you can learn something from everyone you meet. In the recruitment industry, this has allowed Jonathan to dive into a number of different industries, leaving him with a well-rounded recruitment background. Jonathan has a passion for sports, travel and spirituality.
Mark Cohen, Director of Operations
Mark is passionate about finding solutions. Coming from a strong technical background in IT, Mark moved into IT recruitment and has left a mark on the industry over the last 30 years. He has built successful IT recruitment departments for large agencies in the past. If you want to talk technology, Mark is your guy. Some of Mark’s favorite talking points are technology, family and sports.
Randy Hendriks, Director of Business Development
Randy loves making connections, and finding new opportunities for partnership. Having worked in the non-profit and startup world, he knows the power and impact of identifying opportunities and making sure there’s a win in it for everyone. His education ranges from a diploma in engineering, to a doctoral thesis on community leadership. To relax, he enjoys bike-riding with his wife and kids around his home-base of Niagara.
Stephane Groulx, Recruitment Team Lead
Stephane is committed to personal growth and connecting with people from all walks of life. He is a firm believer that an interview with a recruiter does not need to be a technical interrogation. Prior to recruitment, Stephane has a background in contact centres and admin roles and has progressed his education in information technology. The only skill Stephane is not trying to improve is his dad jokes.
